Fancy a good night out? Great, let’s meet at the Twitter Arms then. It’s the latest place at which to be seen and the good news is it’s open 24/7 so there’s usually someone in there that you will know.

However, I will warn you that like most establishments, there will be a crashing bore propping up the bar. He’ll regale you with tales about how great he is, how he knows EVERYTHING and please don’t tell him he’s wrong because he never is.

The place is usually full of comedians, with some being naturally funny, while others try hard to be so. Conversely, there are others that just pop in to people watch and prefer to keep themselves to themselves.

Celebrity spotting

You can spot the odd celebrity if you so wish, but on the whole and in the main, it is generally full of normal people going about their lives.

Resident Experts

The Twitter Arms is a great place to get some information from a resident expert, learn what is happening in the world, or just to look at some pictures of cats, which quite a few people seem to take in there.

A place to do business

More importantly, it is a great place to do business. Play it right and you can, more often than not, discuss a joint venture or a revenue sharing opportunity, or just use it to tell people what you do. On the odd occasion, someone will actually take you to one side and say: “I need to buy exactly what you are selling.” Good eh?

Twitter Influencers

This is what Twitter is all about and they don’t call it social media for nothing. Last week Accord came up with a top ten of twitter influencers. The rationale for the list was longevity, number of followers and volume of tweets. I can tell you now, it is much more than that.

The Twitter Arms is a noisy place and it gets busy, so you need to work hard to get noticed.  You need to be engaging so that people stand around you and listen to what you have to say. But it’s even more than that, because you have to continually be of interest, otherwise the crowd will soon drift away and go and listen to someone else. Whatever happens, just make sure the crashing bore propping up the bar isn’t you.

Top 10 mortgage broker influencers

So, I thought I would do my own top 10 of mortgage broker influencers, but excluding those on the list already announced to make it fair. These 10 know their industry, are helpful and diligent, knowledgeable and friendly. More importantly they can talk about things other than mortgages, and to me at least, that makes them worth the follow:

Daniel Clayton                       MAB                                                    @Danny_Clayton

Stuart Gegory                        Lentune                                               @Mortgage_Stu
